Ghana is beaming with pride as our national youth boxing team — affectionately called the Black Rockets — has made history at the 2025 Africa Youth Amateur Boxing Championship held in Conakry, Guinea.
Under the expert leadership of Coach Joseph Martey, these three exceptional young boxers rose to the occasion, each claiming gold medals in their respective weight divisions:
-
🥇 Desmond Pappoe – Middleweight (75Kg), 18 years old
-
🥇 Mathias Ashitey – Flyweight (51Kg), 18 years old
-
🥇 George Nii Nortey Dowouna – Bantamweight (54Kg), 17 years old
Their courage, discipline, and relentless spirit have not only brought victory to Ghana but have also inspired a new wave of hope for the future of boxing in the country.
The performance of the Black Rockets is a testament to what dedicated mentorship, structured training, and national support can achieve. The Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF), in partnership with the National Sports Authority (NSA) and the Ministry of Sports and Culture (MoSC), continues to reset the course of Ghanaian boxing — nurturing raw talent and producing champions ready for the global stage.
As the team returns home, a heroes’ welcome awaits these proud ambassadors of Ghanaian excellence. Their golden victories are not just personal achievements — they are a national triumph!
Let’s join the rest of the nation in saying a loud:
🇬🇭 CONGRATULATIONS, BLACK ROCKETS! GHANA IS PROUD OF YOU!
